Jatayu

Jatayu is a fantastic talking bird from Hindu mythology. Later in life he became known as the king of the birds (or the king of the vultures). He is also a friend of the heroic prince Rama. When Rama's wife, Sita, was abducted by the demon king Ravana, Jatayu went out to try to save her. Jatayu fought against Ravana, but unfortunately was defeated.

In Indian art, Jatayu resembles a normal vulture. In Indonesian art, he is more colorful and has teeth, and sometimes other humanoid features. This drawing is an illustration for a book of mythical creatures around the world.
